During the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show 2018, Mercedes-Benz presented two pre-production models – diesel C-Class and E-Class plug-in hybrids. These cars combine the most modern diesel engine with the 9G-TRONIC hybrid transmission.
This engine will be produced in the soon to be materialized factory in Jawor. The four-cylinder OM 654 is characterized by its ultra-modern design, providing a completely new level of efficiency. It is the first diesel engine used in passenger cars with a graduated combustion chamber. It is built on an aluminium block and steel pistons, and the NANOSLIDE® cylinder wall coating has been dramatically improved, which reduces internal friction by approx. 25%. The new engine is smaller than its predecessor and uses fourth generation common rail direct fuel injection, at pressures up to 2050 bar.

The production launch of the OM 654 engine in Jawor is forecast for the beginning of the Summer 2019. The production and assembly lines will be operated with the latest AGIPRO system, enabling quick and flexible production adjustment in accordance with ongoing demand.
