A lithium plant is being built in Guben near the Polish border, which will supply lithium hydroxide for battery production from 2026, including the supply of the Mercedes plant in Jawor. This is another milestone for Mercedes-Benz towards the sustainable production of state-of-the-art batteries in Europe, and the Jawor plant is one of the plants that will play a key role in increasing the production of electric Mercedes.
The lithium plant under construction is the result of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and German-Canadian start-up Rock Tech. Last year, the two companies signed an agreement to supply Mercedes-Benz’s battery-building partners with high-grade lithium hydroxide, refined in the new factory in sufficient quantities for around 150,000 fully electric cars per year.
